
RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
The NPLQ covers all aspects of pool rescue techniques, lifeguarding theory, first aid, and CPR. This is a physically demanding course, requiring candidates to complete timed swims, perform casualty lifts, and dive to the deepest area of the pool. Training and assessment are delivered across three sections, all of which must be successfully completed to achieve the qualification.
To enrol on the NPLQ course, you must be:

16-years-old or above at the time of taking the assessment

Able to jump/dive into deep water

Able to swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds

Able to swim 100 metres continuously on front and back

Able to tread water for 30 seconds, in deep water

Able to surface dive to the floor of the pool

Able to climb out unaided without ladder/steps
