
RLSS National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC)
The NRASTC is a supervision and rescue qualification designed for swimming teachers, coaches, and instructors working during programmed activities such as swimming lessons. It is suitable for use in a wide range of swimming pool environments where water depth exceeds the teacher’s standing depth and aligns with the facility’s risk assessment. This is a 12 hour course.

To enrol on the NRASTC course, you must be:

16-years-old or above at the time of taking the assessment

Able to swim a minimum of 50 metres on your front and back

Able to surface dive to the deepest part of the pool
-
Able to climb out unaided without using steps or ladders

RLSS National Reach and Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC) Light
This is a shorter, lighter version of the NRASTC award designed for settings where a qualified lifeguard or first-aid backup is present on poolside and can respond quickly if needed. The course focuses on basic rescue and emergency response relevant to programmes with lifeguard/first-aid support, This is a 6 hour course and covers slightly less detail than the full NRASTC.
